Actually in French he is called Charlie.
All My Waldo books w ere Charlie, but I still called him Waldo.
English books were hard to find here in rural Quebec.

Not the same vibe in French I guess.
I had to google it, Waldo was the American and English Canadian name, in the U.K. Where it came from, he is called Wally.
They localized the name depending on the markets.
We both learnt something new because of your pourquoi?
